The US finally won a soccer game. Not a draw or an inexplicable penalty that negates a goal...Just a win. And this win means they will continue on to the elimination round on Saturday. So in an attempt to find some biblical application, I landed on...
1 Cor. 9:24
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to win the prize."
See, the US has qualified to play in the World Cup. Beyond that they won there group in group play. But if they sit back at this point and get complacent ("We got this far... everything from this point on will be a major struggle. This is more than most other teams have done. This is enough for us.") they would miss out on the chance for huge life altering moments.
What about us?
Am I any better?
Too often I take a break from running. I mean it's tiring. Besides look at all those other people in the crowd just watching. I'm doing better than they are. At least, I'm pretending to try to win the race.
But but not running all out in desperation to win the prize, I am missing out on life altering experiences.
Prayer:
Lord, make me mindful of the times I stop running like I want to win... and just start pretending to try.
